JUST IN TIME FOR THE 87TH ACADEMY AWARDS, we relaunched our own “Aging With Attitude” awards to focus attention on films that offer a view of growing older too seldom seen on the big screen.

We nominated this year’s top “aging with attitude” films—dramas and documentaries whose themes, characters, subjects or stars best defy senior stereotypes.

Our readers voted overwhelmingly for “The Age of Love,” a wonderful piece of documentary storytelling that gets inside the lives of a group of real-life senior speed daters. Congratulations to filmmaker Steven Loring and also to the film’s subjects, who get the “Bravest Senior Daters” award! Read Senior Planet’s interview with Loring here.    Continue Reading

Very proud that THE AGE OF LOVE has won the 9th Annual Paley Center DocFest/DocPitch Competition in NYC, up against some amazing filmmakers from across the country. And it was great to have a whole crew of supporters from SVA's SocDoc Film Program, where this project began.

What the competition is: “At this signature event of the Paley Center’s annual documentary festival, five up-and-coming, nonfiction filmmakers pitch their films before a live audience and a group of eminent documentary filmmakers and producers. The panel evaluates the proposals for uniqueness and viability, and the winner will be awarded a $5,000 grant from A&E IndieFilms to be used toward the completion of their project.”

Read more about the event, the judges (from POV, A&E, History Channel and others) and the competing films.

Moving toward our world premiere, we're feeling the enthusiasm build!

Fledgling Fund – Documentary Social Impact Grant

fledgling-fund-logoTHE AGE OF LOVE is incredibly proud to have received a $20k Fledgling Fund grant, awarded to documentary films ‘that have the potential to change hearts and minds and ignite social change through innovative distribution, strategic outreach and audience engagement.’

Our plan is to design and distribute a complete, do-it-yourself Senior Speed Dating/Speed Friendship event kit to be provided to all community centers and healthy aging programs that screen the film. Our goal is to foster both a new conversation between generations about emotional needs, as well as to provide seniors with an empowering, fun and much-needed social outlet.

Communities who organize an event will report local reaction, results and media attention back to this website, where anyone can then follow the progress of and response to the movement across the country.

If you’d like to lend support to our project in your community, please let us know.

And, if you’re single and over 70, get ready to date!
